Our Story
Long before Catalina’s Hideaway existed, we were two people who loved exploring the world together—always searching for somewhere beautiful, connected to nature, and filled with genuine hospitality.
After more than twenty-five combined years in Canada’s finance industry, we began dreaming about a different kind of life. That dream took us on a two-year search across Central America, until we found six acres of untouched coastline on Panama’s Pacific coast—and knew we’d found it.
There was no road. No electricity. No hotel. Just jungle, ocean, and a dream. So we built one—a road first, then a well, then power—and slowly, Catalina’s Hideaway began to take shape.
Today, eleven private casitas sit between the jungle and the Pacific, along a stretch of coastline that still makes us feel like we’ve fallen off the edge of the earth. And we’re still here, welcoming guests and sharing the place we dreamed of finding all those years ago.

From the beachfront yoga deck tucked among old-growth palms to Sobremesa’s open-air spaces designed to bring people together, every corner of the Hideaway was created with intention. More than a place to stay, it’s a place where guests become friends.
Over the years, we've continued to thoughtfully refine the property while staying true to the original vision: a place where nature, hospitality, and meaningful travel exist in harmony.
Ryan transformed the surrounding landscape into a thriving tropical sanctuary filled with native plants and wildlife, while Anthea shaped each space to feel warm, relaxed, and unmistakably its own — locally sourced materials, handcrafted finishes from a Canadian company committed to sustainable, ethical craftsmanship, and inspiration drawn from Panama itself.
