OUR STORY
The Hideaway is quite literally the building of a dream.
After spending over 25 years combined on Bay Street in Toronto, Canada’s finance industry, we made a life altering decision to change our futures forever. As adventure seekers, avid travelers, foodies, and music lovers, we embarked on a two-year search for beachfront land in Central America. In 2013, we fell in love with and purchased a 6-acre, 200-meter beachfront property just outside of a tiny hip surf town called Santa Catalina in Panama.
Since then, we developed a road, drilled a well, brought in electricity and began to build our “dream hotel”.
After traveling together for close to two decades we knew exactly what we wanted to create:
A HIDEAWAY
A space welcoming all types of travelers: adventurers, foodies, creatives, characters, and conscious beings seeking to retreat, recharge and rejuvenate from their daily grind.
RETREAT | In accommodations that enable guests to live in harmony with nature while maintaining all of the luxuries of home.
RECHARGE | On a landscape that makes you feel like you fell off the edge of the earth. Lounge by our infinity pool that overlooks the ocean, or in one of our many luxe hammocks scattered throughout the hideaway. Enjoy our yoga classes on our beachfront yoga deck or take out a stand up paddleboard from our doorstep. The Hideaway has many offerings for you to recharge!
REJUVENATE | By enjoying savory food and drink in our open-air restaurant & bar, Sobremesa, serving up breakfast, lunch and dinner, along with eclectic music and a chill atmosphere. Welcoming hotel as well as non-hotel guests to enjoy and connect.

The Hideaway Beach
Situated on a secluded and dramatic beachfront, Catalina’s Hideaway is located approximately 10 minutes outside of Santa Catalina. You can often walk in our bay for miles and only bump into the odd wild horse or see a few locals fishing & clamming. With an abundance of wildlife and flora you can truly experience Panama’s natural beauty tucked away in our unique oasis.
The hotel consists of 2 Beachfront Casitas, 1 Jungle Treehouse, 2 Garden Casitas and The Trinity Motel, which are spread across 2.5 acres of jungle and enhanced by a 1-acre natural pond. Anthea’s vision is expressed through the interiors, which are completely unique with chic bathrooms, exquisite outdoor garden showers, along with imported and locally sourced boho-style furnishings. Ryan, is the green thumbs of the family, and has been at the forefront of designing our stunning tropical gardens.
Beachfront Shower
The beachfront restaurant and bar, Sobremesa, has lively welcoming decor, a library and games area, and an infinity pool complete with daybeds, loungers, and shade. We also share with you our passion for music with our turntables and live acoustic set up. If you sneak around back, you will also discover our cozy stargazing chillout area.
The all-natural elevated wood yoga deck sits within our old growth palms on the beach and is the perfect place to find some Zen.
